Multidisciplinary Certificate in Polymer Engineering and Polymers

PTFE offers a multidisciplinary certificate program in Polymer Engineering and Polymers. The objective of the Polymers Certificate program is to provide students with a structured program for an in-depth study of polymers. Programs of study will be structured to meet the needs and to fit the background of individual students. Required courses will cover the areas of polymer production, polymer chemistry, measurement of polymer structure and properties, and polymer processing. Opportunities are available for independent research. The certificate program requires six credit hours of specified courses and six hours of electives selected from a list of courses. The director of undergraduate affairs acts as advisor for all certificate and minor programs.

Minor and Certificate Program in Polymer/Fiber Enterprise Management

Incorporating specialized knowledge of the polymer and fiber industries with an understanding of management principles, PTFE offers minor and certificate Polymer/Fiber Enterprise management programs. Students who complete these certificate or minor programs will be well prepared to compete for numerous prime management positions in over 25,000 companies and 1.8 million direct employees, as well as in supporting industries. This diverse industrial complex, the largest manufacturing employer in the U.S., offers excellent career opportunities. Graduates, who enjoy high starting salaries and multiple job opportunities, are in great demand. DuPont Corporation, Milliken & Company, Shaw Industries, and others are only a few of the Fortune 500 companies seeking PTFE graduates.

Up to twenty scholarships will be available annually to Industrial and Systems Engineering, Management, and Economics majors who wish to pursue a formal certificate or minor in Polymer/Fiber Enterprise Management. These scholarships are awarded competitively to students who take a series of four courses (certificate program) or eight courses (minor program) that provide the specialized knowledge base necessary for managing a modern enterprise in the polymer and fiber industries. Awardees must be either U.S. citizens or permanent residents currently enrolled at Georgia Tech.
