Five-year B.S./M.S. Program
Georgia Tech undergraduate students may be admitted into the program upon completion of thirty semester credit hours at Georgia Tech and attaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA to continue in the program and to qualify for the six-credit-hour graduate course option.
Target Audience
This program seeks to engage undergraduate students at Georgia Tech who indicate an interest in, and ability for, additional education beyond the B.S. degree. The key components of such a program are: (1) A meaningful undergraduate research experience (PTFE 4698 or 4699) for those seeking the non-thesis M.S. degree; and (2) careful advising and course-planning to enable students to begin graduate coursework in the fourth year of study. Students with significant AP credit will be especially well positioned to take full advantage of this opportunity.
How the Program Works
Students in the B.S./M.S. program will remain undergraduates until they meet the requirements for the B.S. degree, at which point they will receive their degree and will change their status to that of graduate students. Students will be eligible to apply for the program after completion of thirty semester credit hours at Georgia Tech (i.e., at the end of the freshman year). Students must have a Georgia Tech GPA of 3.5 or higher for admission into the five-year B.S./M.S. program in Polymer, Textile & Fiber Engineering.
Graduate Admissions and Enrollment Services (GAES) will process a streamlined application (application fee waived, no GREs, one recommendation letter from a Georgia Tech faculty member, and a short essay) and forward to the graduate coordinator. The application must be endorsed by the student's academic advisor in the School. Admission into the program will be based on academic performance at Georgia Tech, as well as the potential for advanced study and/or research as assessed from the essay.
Continuation in the program will require the student to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. This GPA requirement should not deter students from taking challenging courses. The program will not penalize students who opt out after the B.S. degree. Students participating in the program will be eligible for the six-credit-hour graduate course option as described in the Institute catalog. http://www.catalog.gatech.edu/students/grad/masters/gradcourse.php
