Microfabrication of drug delivery devices via inkjet printing
Topic Summary:
This research aims to develop microfabrication methods exploiting advanced inkjet digital printing technology to produce biosensors with controlled drug delivery capability.
The long-term goal is to contribute to the national and international efforts in the development of fundamental science and technology to eliminate biosensor rejection. The knowledge gained from the research could find use in immunoisolation devices, pacemakers, kidney dialysis membranes, microdialysis systems, and other devices facing biocompatibility/ sensocompatibility issues that limit in vivo function. The short-term goal of the research is to inkjet print composite films containing dexamethasone and to demonstrate the capability of these composite films of continuous, controlled release of dexamethasone.
