PTFE Professor Finalist in Invention Competition

Atlanta (June 5, 2006) — Professor Sundaresan Jayaraman from the School of Polymer, Textile & Fiber Engineering was selected as one of the top 5 finalists in the Modern Marvels Invent Now® Challenge, a national competition which began in October 2005. He was recognized for the invention of the Wearable Motherboard that was developed jointly with his Research Associate, Ms. Sungmee Park. The device monitors the wearer’s vital signs in real time and has applications for military personnel, athletes, astronauts, and infants at risk of SIDS.

Invent Now®, a subsidiary of the National Inventors Hall of Fame Foundation, in partnership with Time Magazine and The History Channel had over 4,300 entrants. A cash prize was awarded to Dr. Jayaraman and the invention was featured on The History Channel Modern Marvels: Great Inventions Week in May. The Challenge traveling exhibit (which includes the 25 semi-finalists) will be on display at the National Inventors Hall of Fame in Akron, OH through September 2006.
