Dr. Vladimir Received the Humboldt Research Award
Atlanta (November 16, 2009) — Dr. Vladimir Tsukruk, MSE/PTFE received the Humboldt Research Award. The award is granted in recognition of a researcher’s entire achievements to date to academics whose fundamental discoveries, new theories, or insights have had a significant impact on their own discipline and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge achievements in future are eligible to be nominated for a Humboldt Research Award.

PhD Student Wins MRS Gold Award

Atlanta (September 12, 2006) — SPE awarded scholarships to three PTFE students. Justin Deadwyler, Matthew Black, and Pratapkumar Nagarajan were awarded $1,000 scholarship each from the Thermoforming Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers.

PTFE Professor Finalist in Invention Competition
Atlanta (June 5, 2006) — Professor Sundaresan Jayaraman from the School of Polymer, Textile & Fiber Engineering was selected as one of the top 5 finalists in the Modern Marvels Invent Now® Challenge, a national competition which began in October 2005. He was recognized for the invention of the Wearable Motherboard (Smart Shirt) that was developed jointly with his Research Associate, Ms. Sungmee Park. The device monitors the wearer’s vital signs in real time and has applications for military personnel, athletes, astronauts, and infants at risk of SIDS.

PTFE Professor Named 2006 Fiber Society Lecturer
Atlanta (May 19, 2006) — Georgia Tech School of Polymer, Textile & Fiber Engineering (PTFE) Professor Dr. Haskell Beckham was recently named a Fiber Society lecturer for 2006. Beckham will lecture on magnetic resonance applications in textile and fiber science and the wicking of fluids in fibrous substrates.
