Functionalization and SWNT/polymer copolymerization
Functionalization may serve to compatabilize SWNTs with specific polymer and or polymer/solvent systems. Relatively longer polymer molecules will also be attached to SWNT to enhance processing and properties.
Carbon/SWNT
Carbon/SWNT composites may have superior thermal and mechanical properties may be the next generation carbon/carbon composites for aerospace applications.
Meso-porous carbon/SWNT:
Meso-porous carbon SWNT composites are being developed for supercapacitor applications. These systems are also being evaluated for hydrogen storage as well as filtration applications.
SWNT films and coatings
SWNT films with high tensile strength and high electrical conductivity as well as optically transparent coatings have been developed. Work to improve these films and coatings as well as further characterization is continuing. These films are good candidates for actuators.
