Biography

Jay Gallman maintains and manages the Polymer, Textile & Fiber Engineering computer network. The network provides connectivity for faculty, staff, students, and laboratory instrument computers facilitating easy access to and exchange of information. Currently PTFE maintains operations in two buildings on a single subnet. Support is provided for Microsoft Windows XP, Vista and Server 2003, as well as Mac OS X. A lengthy list of software packages are also supported. Jay maintains the department's student computer cluster in the MRDC building. This cluster has 10 machines provides access to specialized software used in research and instruction. He is also involved with the CoE Matrix Virtual Machine project, facilitating access to some packages via virtualized computers. This allows students to access and run applications via their personally owned computers from anywhere.

Jay was a participant in the 2006-2007 Masters Series Executive Development Program at Georgia Tech.

CAMPUS COMMITTEES
Information Technology Advisory Council (ITAC) :: This group is comprised of IT professionals campus-wide and has a mission to address IT issues that affect the entire Georgia Tech community. This group works to find solutions to existing hardware/software issues, and also makes recommendations on policy issues. Jay has chaired this group since its inception in 2002.

PTFE's Computer Support Representative (CSR) :: This group is responsible for the communication of IT related information to and from OIT and the rest of campus.

Engineering Computer Support Representative (ECSR) :: Committee examining computer issues of specific concern to the College of Engineering.

President's Transportation Advisory Committee (PTAC) :: Charged with reviewing the parking and stinger transportation services operations and making recommendations for change.

LANDesk Steering Committee :: This group is responsible for coordinating the use and development of best practices for LANDesk on the Georgia Tech Campus. LANDesk allows for the centralized management of a number of areas related to desktop and server computing, including but not limited to, patch management, helpdesk, software deployment, and asset management

McAfee ePO Committee :: This group is responsible for coordinating the use and development of best practices for McAfee's ePolicy Orchestrator which provides for centralized management of antivirus installs on the Georgia Tech campus.
